Safety and security

The Old City (Ciutat Vella) is a residential zone in the city center. For its high touristy influence, and its characteristics (narrow streets, many places of interests), it is advised to be careful with all your belongings. As in any other big city, it is also better to be careful at night in empty small streets.

The Old City is the traditional meeting place of youngsters living in Barcelona as well as for visitors. Therefore, this quarter has many bars, restaurants and other shops. It is also a residential area and it is important to respect the residents.

This area now is full of immigrants, coming from North Africa and South America. For this reason, in some areas you will feel the atmosphere of other cultures, showing how Barcelona is open to the World and to cultures, and to what extent it is respectful and tolerant to anyone from a different culture.
